Volunteer Spotlight: Kai Christopher

Core volunteer Kai Christopher at the Clayton ReStore

Since beginning his volunteer journey in December, Kai Christopher has accumulated 212 hours and counting at the Clayton ReStore! His commitment to helping others and his enthusiasm for learning new skills have made him a valuable member of our Clayton team.

Kai had experience volunteering at the Habitat ReStore in Dunn, but noticed the Clayton ReStore had just opened right down the road from where he lived. He stopped by to visit and had a conversation with Assistant ReStore Manager Clint Joseph. The rest is history!

Kai volunteers with clear job skill goals in mind: punctuality, teamwork and responsibility.

“This is helping me with everything,” Kai said.

One of his favorite tasks is assisting shoppers and donors, especially when they need help loading or unloading items. Now that he knows the store inside and out, he’s able to help shoppers find exactly what they need.

Before joining Habitat, Kai also volunteered at the Dunn Public Library shelving books. His passion for organization and helping others shines through in everything he does.

Beyond his time at the ReStore, Kai enjoys staying active.

“My all-time favorite thing is the staff here,” Kai said. “Volunteering also helps keep me busy and in shape.”

His fitness watch tracks his steps, and he logged more than 21,000 steps while volunteering one busy Saturday!

When he's not at the ReStore, you might find him caring for his six beta fish, selling handmade vinyl clocks at the flea market, bowling at Rainbow lanes or playing tennis and basketball.

“When he takes on a challenge, he excels in everything he does,” said Jerri, Kai’s healthcare worker. “I’ve been with Kai for two years, and this is the best I’ve ever seen him. The Clayton ReStore has become like a family to him, and they treat him just like one of the staff.”

“You should come and volunteer because it will help you interact with others and also teaches you how important it is to help others,” Kai said.

The Clayton ReStore reopened in its new location in November 2024 and is in need of more volunteers!
