On August 8th, we will reach a special milestone. Habitat Wake will complete its 100th "A Brush With Kindness" project at the home of Anne and Larry Wilson located at 425 Solar Drive in Raleigh’s Apollo Heights neighborhood.
A Brush With Kindness through Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative.
A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) is an exterior home preservation program that offers painting, landscaping and minor repair services to eligible low-income homeowners so they can continue to live in safe, decent homes for years to come. Work is completed by volunteers and includes painting, landscaping, and minor repair services. Habitat Wake will assist 45 local homeowners this year through A Brush With Kindness. The project at the Wilson home will be the first to include a roof repair.
Habitat Wake added A Brush With Kindness to its menu of services in 2010 as part of its Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI) efforts, led by Syretta Hill of Habitat Wake. Neighborhood Revitalization is a national Habitat for Humanity initiative which aims to serve more families by responding to community needs with an expanded array of products, services and partnerships that enhance the quality of life for all. “We work closely with city and county officials to identify neighborhoods in need of support, especially safe, affordable housing,” Hill explains. A Brush With Kindness is one Habitat Wake solution to improve housing conditions in Neighborhood Revitalization communities. The program is also available to owners of existing homes in neighborhoods where Habitat has built new homes. “A Brush With Kindness is a service to the homeowner and boosts the appearance and pride of the entire neighborhood,” Hill added. “It helps Habitat Wake build communities, not just houses.”

Habitat Wake’s primary mission is to build affordable, decent homes in partnership with hardworking families in Wake County who cannot afford a traditional mortgage. When you shop, donate or volunteer at the ReStore -- you are providing financial support to our mission. The agency also funds the building of homes in El Rosario, Honduras, and supports envirnomental stewardship through the Deconstruction services program. To date, Habitat Wake has built over 460 homes in Wake County and touched more than 750 families. Help us build our 500th home and touch our 1000th family by 2015!
